Tracy Kirschner provides a full range of Physical Therapy services with a specialization in management of the complex patient, including patients with Lyme disease and associated disorders, detox challenges, lymphedema, lipedema, cancer, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, fibromyalgia, headaches, lupus, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, digestive hypomobility issues, and some visceral dysfunction. She utilizes a holistic approach and encourages her patients to take an active role in setting and achieving their goals. The individualized care often includes ongoing evaluation, manual therapy, exercise, neuromuscular reeducation and patient education. Dr. Kirschner educates her patients so they are able to manage their continue healing and/or improving beyond the clinic.
Dr. Kirschner was Clinic Director at Physiotherapy Associates in Fairfax. Her focus was on managing orthopedic patients including ankle, foot, knee and hip management, orthotic prescription/casting. Additionally, she practiced cancer rehabilitation.
She founded the Northern Virginia Center for Physical Therapy where she focused on managing complex patients and patients with chronic pain including neck and back pain, headaches, TMJ dysfunction, fibromyalgia, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, cancer, Lyme, and other tick borne illnesses.
She managed the Alaska Treatment Center’s Orthopedic and Sports Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Her focus was on treating patients with orthopedic and sports injuries, postoperative rehabilitation, chronic neck and back pain, headaches and temporomandibular disorders.
Tracy gained experience in Neurorehabilitation at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, New Jersey which is the nation’s largest single rehabilitation hospital.
Dr. Kirschner practiced physical therapy at Johns Hopkins Hospital gaining a diverse experience including management of patients with trauma, orthopedic post surgical care, acute neurological rehabilitation and chest physical therapy.
Dr. Kirschner received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and Master of Science in Motor Control from Boston University. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. Kirschner’s teaching appointments include Assistant Professor at Boston University and at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Kirschner focused on Orthopedic Physical Therapy and Manual Therapy with special interests in neck and back pain, TMJ disorders and headaches. At the University of Alaska, Dr. Kirschner taught Anatomy and Kinesiology.
Dr. Kirschner is a recognized national speaker on various physical therapy topics relating to chronic neck and back pain, posture, TMJ disorders, and fibromyalgia management.
